Euglena is called a connecting link between plants and animals because it has chloroplasts and makes food by photosynthesis like a plant, but has no cell wall, has a flagellum and can feed heterotrophically like an animal.यूग्लीना को पादपों और जंतुओं के बीच की कड़ी कहा जाता है, क्योंकि उसमें पादप की तरह हरितलवक होते हैं और वह प्रकाश संश्लेषण से भोजन बनाता है, पर उसमें कोशिका भित्ति नहीं होती, कशाभ होता है और वह जंतु की तरह विषमपोषी रूप से भी भोजन ले सकता है।
